Soil Blocks

No, no! I’m not talking about the ones made of the actual Soil Block Makers – though I wish I could. I wanted to ask my friend who-choo-aaach—oo-achoo… … … came to India from US to get me one, but I forgot! Stupid me! Today, with no office and fever and cold, I had nothing to do except go through the blogs. I was constantly eyeing at the seed packets my sis brought from Germany for me. I thought, Why don’t I try making soil blocks myself?
It’s so boring sitting here-achoo-and sneezing constantly and shivering. I wanted to make use of my leave (which isn’t a leave but a Loss of Pay… Grrr… Managers never understand!) as I seldom get it, what with my constant shift changes and disturbed sleeps! So I decided to sow the strawberries (I was waiting for this) and laven-achoo-der.
So this is what I came up with. I know these blocks might break up, but let’s see…

Thank you so much, Tina. I hope these blocks work out, as the seeds are dear to me since they were given to me by my sister.

Chandramouli, I do hope you are feeling better by now! How did you make the soil blocks? These are very interesting. I've purchased peat pellets before, which also are immersed in water, but I've never seen these soil blocks before.

I hope your tulips and crocuses are doing well. I tried forcing a few leftover ones indoor this year for the first time; I'm crossing my fingers that they will bloom. You will love those red parrot tulips!

Oh, thank you Rose. I really do hope the bulbs come out well.
About the blocks, they're amateurish attempts at replicating the ones made with those soil block makers. I simply made a potting mix that's kinda dough-like and stuffed them into the small plastic cups you see there and after about 2 to 3 hours, I toppled them upside down on a plastic container and gently sowed the seeds. Hope they don't break with days! Got my fingers crossed.

Thank you, Kanak. Glad to see you back here in the blogdom! I'm curious to see Chennai from your perspective. That tecoma is very common here - almost in every other house you'd have one. They're used in pujas in this season, but off late people ignore it - I wonder why though.

Hi Chandramouli,

I am so excited to see the seeds you have got and too ..Coool
You must be very happy.

I heard strawberries are mostly propagated from 'runners'. I am really curious to see your seed starting results.

Good luck to you :D
Keep us all posted.

GG: Hi, Even my sis told me the same when I asked her to get me the strawberry seeds, but finally she did find one and got me this. Hope it germinates and I harvest strawberries later this year! Thank you.

Tyra: Thank you so much, Tyra. I'm better than I was yesterday. The fever's reduced considerably.
