Hi everyone! This week I chose this beautiful insect. I don't know if it's beneficiary or harmful, but I chanced to spot it and found it beautiful. No idea as to what it could be. Anyone?
Great, sharp photo! I thought it was a wasp or some kind of ant, but I'm not sure. I love the little antennaes on it. It's a mystery! Maybe you've discovered a new species. Cool!
Linda: Thank you. It was strange to me too and didn't really notice it much even when I was photographing it!
Randy: Said true. Now that you pointed it I too am wondering about its abdomen. Hmmm...
Racquel: Thank you, but I looked up wasps and most of them seem to have striped abdomen and as Randy pointed out the abdomen is missing here. I mean in the photo. Or is it really missing?
Tina: Flying Ant.... I looked up in the google but have no luck yet.
Catherine: Thank you Catherine. I'm still trying to ID it.
Marion: Thank you :). I still think it might me a wasp as I was reading through all the comments and I just now learned that not all wasps necessarily have striped abdomen. It's possible that some wasps have just a metallic blue or green body! That makes me wonder if this is a metallic blue wasp? Does the body look metallic blue? I thought it was black! Or Am I color blind? OMG!
hey, would you just tell me where you get plants from? and what happened to your tulips? I am looking out for Chrysanthemums, Desert Rose and other bulbs.
Great shot! Did you know you can also upload your insect photos to BugGuide.net, and someone will identify them for you? Very cool website...use them often!
Antigonum Cajan: Hi, yes. It is hibiscus. Thanks for the clue. Damn me for not thinking about it. Thanks a bunch.
Thank you, Tyra :) Glad you liked it
Could be, Randy, but this thing looks different from a normal mud wasp or dirt dauber. Besides did you notice its blue eyes? That has me puzzling and almost all of the wasps have striped abdomen and this one lacks abdomen - may be it's short or severed off? But how can it survive without one? Or may be its abdomen was bent? Damn! Should have taken it in other angles too. But as I said, I noticed it only after I copied it onto my hard disk.
Thank you, Shailaja. It IS lovely, ain't it!
Ah yes, Kanak! The lush green of hibiscus!
Petra: Thank you so much. Have a good day :)
Robin: I'm gonna try that site, thanks to you and Randy. I too think that it's a wasp but still going through many of the photos in google, none of them match this one - not even close! But again there are tons!
Hi ally, as I said the tulips - remaining two died - never even gave out leaves. Mums - I got them from a placed called Rose garden in ECR road - before VGP to the right. The desert rose - you can find it in all nurseries but if you're interested in specific hybrids, check out this website: http://www.adeniumsindia.com/ --> The guy is in Alwarpet and told me that his farm is in ECR road and that I could go with him on Saturdays and Sundays - early mornings. The problem is, I work in night shifts and afternoon shifts which make it difficult for me to go with him. You could call him and he's a nice guy. He says he has a farm of different Adenium varieties. Check out his website and you'd want one of each!
Greg: Thank you. I gotta do that and the whatsthebug too. Thank you for the link, bro! Have a nice day.
Good luck, Ally :) Do keep us updated through your blog.
Antigonum Cajan: LOL! That's really a crazy thought, but hey, with all the technology, mutations and all that stuff, who knows? you might be right! LOL!
Gardening, Knitting, and Crochet are my passion in my life. I love the idea of blogging which serves as an outlet for the artist in me.
In the blog, In Art Lies My Heart, I speak of the green stories of Plantville (my garden world). I intend to attract wildlife to my garden and also grow plants from our ancient lores and rare plants.
In my blog, Cables and Posts, I intend to convert yarns into beautiful fabrics and share my work with others who share the same interest all over the globe.
I'm glad I began this journey... Come, join me.

Wery beautiful photo!
Linda
Looks like a wasp, but where is the abdomen? It won't be long before we have all kinds of cool subjects to shot macro.
I agree with Randy, looks like a wasp of some sort. Cool macro today!
It looks kind of like a flying ant or a wasp. Very cool and quite busy!
Very interesting insect, I have no idea what it is though.

Cool photo. I hope someone can identify it. Not me, sorry.
A great photo, but I have no idea what it is either. The head reminds me of an ant, but unless you have giant ants, that can't be right:)
Thank you, Marie. I'm still searching...
I thought that too, Rose. It kind of does resemble an ant but again as you said, it's too big for an ant. [sigh] I hope I'll find out someday.
Well, well there seems to be an absence of entomologists among
the groupies. Not a big deal.
Is the plant/bush Hibiscus?
Often the best way to find
identities is establishing the
habitat.
Brilliant photo Chandramouli! I don't know what it is, sorry.
Tyra
Mouli,
It looks like a Dirt Dauber to me. We have them around here, they make there nest from mud. Though it does have a small abdomen.

I have no idea what it is but it's too lovely to be dismissed as a humbug!:) Happy clicking!
Beautiful shot of the insect...even the leaf is such a refreshing green!
Hello, it looks like a bug to me. But I have no idea what kind of bug ;O) Have a nice week, Petra
I'd say it's some kind of wasp, but not sure what kind. Did you try whatsthatbug.com?

great spotted fellow! looks very interesting! no idea what it could be...
Greetings,
Ewa
Thank you Michelle :)
Glad you liked it Ewa. Welcome to Plantville. Hope you liked your stay and come back soon...
Thanks a lot :) The adeniums website seems to be gr8. I am sure that he would be a right point of contact.
Could it be, besides the beauty of it
all a mosquito on steroids? Or feeding on transgenic plants?
Good luck, Ally :) Do keep us updated through your blog.
